About

A remarkable little spot to rest your head after enjoying the delights of Bristol, with the bars, cafes and eateries of Stokes Croft on your doorstep. Our Eco Sleep Pods are made using straw fibre insulation and built on a timber frame surrounding our lovely silver birch tree.

Good to know

A hotel room on stilts, you'll have a spacious balcony with your own front door, studio bedroom and private shower room. Once inside, you'll find the room is well insulated from the elements. There's a chiller and tea and coffee making facilities as well as a smart TV and WiFi. We've used reclaimed scaffolding boards to make some handy shelving for your gadgets and other bits and bobs too. This is an Eco Sleep Pod, so you won't find a wardrobe, luggage rack or air con, instead, you'll find a small cupboard for storage, a slimline heater for cosy winter visits and we've upcycled donated items to make coat hooks for your wall. Your basics are provided including tea, coffee and milk as well as towels, bedding and soap.

Other Details to Note

Situated in the heart of Stokes Croft, your Eco Sleep Pod has the feel of a tree house, however, it is situated above the yard of a working reuse charity. The yard operates Monday to Friday and there will be staff and volunteers on site from 9am until 5pm carrying out furniture stripping, loading and unloading vans. At the end of Backfields on the adjoining street is Lakota nightclub, which can cause some noise over the weekend. Your pod is well insulated so you should not be disturbed if you're napping during the day, however, when it's gloriously warm outside and you have your balcony door or windows open, expect to sometimes hear our reuse work going on in the background. About the Eco Sleep Pods design: Our Eco Sleep Pods, made by Agile Property & Homes, are manufactured using renewable, carbon capturing materials that minimise their environmental footprint, energy costs and CO2 emissions. They are intelligent in operation as well as design; they reduce environmental impact simply and effectively without compromising how people choose to live their lives. They use 90% less energy to heat and light than standard construction materials and methods and are made using the PassivHaus Certified straw construction system. PassivHaus is the most rigorous energy and comfort standard in the world. Why Emmaus Bristol chose this design: We have a need for more affordable housing to provide move on opportunities for residents who are ready for more independent living. Rental prices in Bristol are high, and limited for individuals without renting history, references and a strong credit score. So, we are looking for alternatives, such as the opportunity to build on our roof, using something like the Eco Pods design. New homes would take the form of larger one and two bedroom units, with shared space for growing food and plants. We have planning permission for this development and income from our Eco Sleep Pods will help us to generate the significant funds needed for developing more homes - either here on the roof, or at another location in Bristol. We hope you choose to stay with us and contribute to our solution for creating new, affordable homes. For more detail search for 'Emmaus Bristol Homes of the Roof'

Accessibility

Neighborhood

Stokes Croft is a buzzing, vibrant and eclectic area of Bristol with cafes, bars and nightclubs all within a stone's throw of your Eco Pod as well as heaps of insta-worthy street art for you to discover. Cabots Circus and Broadmead shopping areas are just a five minute walk. Britain's longest street of independent shops begins at the top of Cheltenham Road, where it meets the legendary Gloucester Road. Here, you will find even more great eateries as well as a myriad of shops with homewares, houseplants, books, gifts and clothes. The Waterfront with all its bars and eateries is a twenty minute stroll across town - you can swing past St Nicholas Market and Corn Street to take in the history (and the great vibes) on your way. Backfields, the road outside your Eco Sleep Pod, is for access, it's not a through road, so there's usually no significant traffic.

Guest access

You'll enter the site via a security coded pedestrian gate. Access to the Sleep Pods themselves is via a spiral staircase in our working yard with a key box for your front door. Access is not permitted to the yard space beyond the Sleep Pod stilts.

This eco pod was absolutely fantastic. The host made checking in super easy and the place was absolutely spotless. It is a beautiful little place, I loved the balcony and how quiet it was yet how close to the city centre it is. Really comfy bed too. I had a wonderful stay and certainly recommend to others, I would 100% stay here again.
